India and Ghana Strengthen Bilateral Relations with Comprehensive Partnership Agreement

India and Ghana have strengthened their relationship to a comprehensive partnership following discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President John Dramani Mahama. The leaders aim to double bilateral trade within five years, with India committed to supporting Ghana's development. This meeting marked the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in 30 years, highlighting its significance.

Trade and Economic Cooperation

India is a key trading partner for Ghana, being the largest importer of Ghanaian exports, particularly gold. As Ghana undergoes significant economic restructuring, Prime Minister Modi pledged India's support in this transformation. Both nations are keen on enhancing trade and investment ties, reflecting their robust economic partnership.

The talks between Modi and Mahama led to the signing of four agreements focusing on cooperation in culture and traditional medicine. These pacts are expected to foster closer ties in various sectors. The meeting took place shortly after Modi's arrival in Ghana, part of his five-nation tour.

Security and Defence Collaboration

Security was a major topic during the discussions. Both leaders agreed that terrorism poses a threat to humanity and vowed to enhance cooperation in combating it. Modi expressed gratitude for Ghana's support in India's anti-terrorism efforts. The countries will collaborate on training armed forces, maritime security, defence supply, and cyber security.

Modi emphasised the importance of resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy, especially concerning issues in West Asia and Europe. He stated, "This is not the era of war; problems should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy." This reflects a shared commitment to peaceful conflict resolution.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties
