Heavy Rain Alert in Karnataka: IMD Issues Yellow Warning For Coastal Belt

Karnataka Weather Forecast

According to the KSNDMC, scattered to widespread light to moderate rain with isolated heavy rain is likely to be seen across Karnataka today. The coastal and Malnad districts are expected to bear the brunt of the heavy rainfall, with possibilities of thundershowers and strong winds in the interior districts over the next two days.

"Scattered moderate rain and isolated heavy rain with thundershowers and strong winds are expected in interior Karnataka districts today and tomorrow," the agency said in an update on X.

Coastal Karnataka to See Week-Long Heavy Rain

As per IMD's subdivision forecast, Karnataka weather in the coastal districts, including Mangaluru, Udupi, and Karwar, is likely to witness heavy rain every day from September 2 to September 8. The continuous heavy rainfall in Karnataka may lead to flood-like situations, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and disruption of transport services.

North & South Interior Karnataka can expect Thunderstorms Ahead

Karnataka weather in the North Interior region can expect thunderstorms with lightning as per the forecast for September 2 and 3, while the weather is expected to improve from September 4 onwards.

Karnataka weather in the South Interior Region, including Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Mandya, will see thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls on September 2, followed by heavy rain and strong surface winds on September 3. The rest of the week is expected to remain relatively fine

Bengaluru Weather Today

Bengaluru weather on September 2nd is mostly cloudy with temperatures around 24°C. Humidity levels are at 70%, with westward winds blowing at 17 mph. Visibility is approximately 5 miles, and the UV index is 4, according to the IMD website.

The short-term forecast for Bengaluru weather today suggests that the city may see scattered afternoon thunderstorms with a slight breeze.

IMD says intermittent showers are expected through the week, keeping temperatures moderate but adding to pressure on Bengaluru traffic, which is already a major problem in the city.

Safety Advisory for Karnataka Residents

The IMD has requested residents in coastal and Malnad regions to remain alert for possible flooding and landslides. Fishermen have been advised to avoid going into the sea due to strong winds. People in Bengaluru and other interior districts should take precautions against thunderstorms and lightning strikes, especially during evening hours.
