HDFC Bank To Undergo 7-Hour Scheduled Maintenance On August 22-23; Know The Services You Can Still Use

The largest private sector lender in India, HDFC Bank, has declared that in order to improve the banking experience for its customers, it would be doing essential system maintenance from August 22, 2025, at 11:00 PM IST, to August 23, 2025, at 6:00 AM IST (7 hours).

"During this period, Customer Care services (Phone Banking IVR, Email, and Social Media), ChatBanking on WhatsApp, and SMS Banking will be unavailable, except for the toll-free number for hotlisting accounts and cards," said HDFC Bank in an email sent to its customers.

During the period in question, you can still conduct the below-listed banking activities even if the aforementioned services won't be accessible:

2. HDFC Bank NetBanking
3. HDFC Bank MobileBanking
4. PayZapp
5. MyCards

Meanwhile, HDFC Bank has announced a big update for its shareholders. The bank is coming with its bonus shares in a 1:1 ratio, which the Board of Directors has declared for the first time since the inception of HDFC Bank. On July 19, 2025, the Board of Directors of HDFC Bank Limited approved the issuance of bonus shares in the ratio of 1:1, i.e. 1 equity share for every 1 equity share held by the shareholders as of the record date. Hence, to determine the eligibility of the shareholders for the purpose of bonus shares, the Board has fixed August 27 as the record date.

Additionally, HDFC Bank recently announced that, subject to compliance with applicable laws, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) granted permission for the use of the Share Premium Account for bonus share issuance in a letter dated August 13, 2025. Additionally, the bank's Memorandum of Association will be amended to include a clause pertaining to an increase in the authorized share capital.

"The Bank has American Depositary Shares ("ADS") listed on the New York Stock Exchange. In order to give effect of the bonus issue on the said ADS, it has been decided to retain the same conversion ratio of ADS i.e. each ADS would represent 3 equity shares of Re.1 each and accordingly the Bank would direct JP Morgan Chase Bank, NA, depositary for the ADS, to increase the number of total ADS in the ratio of 1:1, post receipt of approval from the Members which has been sought by way of Postal Ballot," HDFC Bank confirmed in a regulatory filing.

The bank has announced the bonus share issuance of approximately 766.79 crore equity shares of face value Rs 1 each, aggregating to Rs 766.79 crore, pursuant to the exercise of stock options/restricted stock units by eligible employees as of the record date. As of June 30, 2025, the Securities Premium Account will be used to distribute the bonus shares.

In addition to the issued, subscribed, and paid-up capital increasing from Rs 766.79 crore (766.79 crore shares) to Rs 1,533.58 crore (1,533.58 crore shares), the bank's authorized share capital will increase from Rs 1,190.61 crore (1,190.61 crore equity shares) to Rs 2,000 crore (2,000 crore equity shares) following the bonus issue.

The bank's Securities Premium Account, which would be capitalized for the bonus issue purpose, was valued at Rs 13,63,15,35,97,062 as of June 30, 2025.

The bonus shares are expected to be credited or dispatched within two months from the Board of Directors' approval, i.e., on or before September 18, 2025, as per HDFC Bank.
