HDFC AMC Share Falls 5% After JPMorgan Downgrade: Should You Hold or Sell This HDFC Stock? Get Brokerage View
On Monday, shares of India's leading mutual fund house, HDFC Asset Management Company (HDFC AMC), came under pressure following a shift in sentiment from global brokerage firm JPMorgan. The stock opened on a weak note and declined by as much as 5% on June 16, after JPMorgan downgraded its rating on HDFC AMC from 'Overweight' to 'Neutral', citing limited near-term upside after the stock's strong recent rally.
JPMorgan's View on HDFC Bank Stock, HDFC AMC
JPMorgan has reaffirmed its price target of Rs 5,000 for HDFC Asset Management Company (HDFC AMC), suggesting a modest potential upside of approximately 1% from the stock's last closing price of Rs 4,959 as of Friday.

The foreign brokerage highlighted the stock's robust performance-rallying 33% over the past three months-significantly outpacing the Nifty's 10% gain during the same period. As a result, JPMorgan believes the near-term risk-reward profile appears balanced, with limited immediate catalysts for further outperformance.
While the broader structural backdrop for equity markets-characterized by subdued inflation, steady GDP expansion, and accommodative monetary policy-has supported strong inflows in recent years, JPMorgan noted a moderation in equity flows so far in 2025. However, the brokerage underscored the continued resilience of Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) inflows, which it views as a key medium-term growth lever for HDFC AMC. This sustained retail participation through SIPs reinforces the stock's long-term investment thesis.
According to JPMorgan, the stock's current valuation already prices in much of the optimism, trading at forward price-to-earnings multiples of 37x for FY26 and 33x for FY27. These elevated multiples suggest that the market has largely factored in the positive structural tailwinds, including strong retail participation, stable economic indicators, and a robust financial services ecosystem.
Analyst Sentiment Remains Overwhelmingly Positive
Among the 27 analysts covering HDFC AMC, the sentiment remains broadly constructive. Twenty analysts maintain a 'Buy' rating, while six suggest a 'Hold', and only one has issued a 'Sell' recommendation. This consensus reflects sustained confidence in the company's fundamentals, market positioning, and growth trajectory within the Indian asset management landscape.
