Guru Tegh Bahadur Shaheedi Diwas Holiday Today: Banks, Schools, What’s Open and What’s Closed on 25 November
November 25 marks the 350th martyrdom anniversary (Shaheedi Diwas) of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru. To honour the occasion, the Delhi government has declared a public holiday across the national capital. The day is observed to commemorate Guru Tegh Bahadur's supreme sacrifice to protect religious freedom, human rights, and the dignity of oppressed communities during the reign of Mughal ruler Aurangzeb.
Who Was Guru Tegh Bahadur?
Guru Tegh Bahadur is remembered as a towering symbol of courage and righteousness. He stood firmly against forced religious conversions and laid down his life defending the right of individuals to practise their own faith freely. His martyrdom is seen as a historic moment in India's struggle for religious liberty, earning him the title Hind Di Chadar-the Shield of India.

Are Banks Open or Closed Today?
Despite the Delhi government's public holiday announcement, banks across India will remain open today. The day is not listed as an RBI-authorised bank holiday, which means customers can access all regular branch services without any disruption.
All scheduled bank holidays for November 2025 had already concluded in the first half of the month.
Guru Tegh Bahadur Jayanti: School Holiday Today?
Schools across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and NCR areas including Noida and Ghaziabad will remain closed on November 25 in observance of Guru Tegh Bahadur Martyrdom Day.
In Uttar Pradesh, the state government has officially shifted the Shaheedi Diwas holiday from November 24 to November 25, meaning all schools and colleges will remain closed on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, several other states observed Guru Tegh Bahadur Jayanti on Monday, November 24, with educational institutions remaining shut accordingly.
Hospitals and Emergency Services to Remain Functional
Despite the public holiday, all government and private hospitals, emergency wards, and essential healthcare services will operate as usual. Emergency medical facilities will remain fully functional to ensure uninterrupted patient care.
Public Transport to Run Normally Today
To avoid inconvenience to commuters, public transport services including the Delhi Metro, DTC buses, auto-rickshaws, and taxis will continue to operate according to their regular schedules. Services are expected to run smoothly throughout the day, ensuring ease of travel for residents and visitors.
