Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala to Receive Heavy Rainfall: IMD Issues Alerts Across India
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across several Indian states this week, with Gujarat, Karnataka, and Kerala among the worst affected. Multiple weather alerts have been issued, including orange and yellow warnings, as the monsoon strengthens across the country.
"A cyclonic circulation is active over southwest Rajasthan, with a low-pressure trough stretching from there to Bangladesh through several northern and eastern states. An earlier low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has weakened and merged with this trough.

Another cyclonic system is likely to develop over the northern Bay of Bengal near Bangladesh and West Bengal around June 29, which could lead to a new low-pressure area forming soon after," noted IMD for the entire India. Below are the monsoon rain predictions across the nation.
West India: Heavy Rain Likely, Especially in Hilly Regions
Gujarat: It is likely to see heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming days because of a weather system stretching from the northeast Arabian Sea to the Bay of Bengal. On June 27, extremely heavy rain of over 20 cm is expected in parts of Saurashtra.
Districts such as Banaskantha, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Mahisagar, and Sabarkantha are under a flash flood warning. The rain will also be accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms.
Maharashtra: In Maharashtra, especially the Konkan and central regions, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over the next seven days. An orange alert has been issued for Mumbai and nearby districts like Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg.
The weather in Mumbai will remain cloudy, with temperatures between 24°C and 30°C, along with thunderstorms. The Konkan coast and ghat areas of Maharashtra are likely to see intense rainfall throughout the week.
South India: Extremely Heavy Rainfall Alert for Kerala and Karnataka
Kerala: It is expected to receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall especially in western ghats region on June 29 and July 3, with very heavy downpours likely on June 27 and 28 with orange alert for Kochi. Widespread rain, along with possible thunderstorms and lightning, is expected in the state.
Karnataka: "Karnataka is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in its coastal and Malnad districts until June 28," according to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC). An orange alert is issued for Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, and Udupi, while a yellow alert covers parts of North and South Interior Karnataka. Strong winds up to 60 kmph may accompany the rain.
IMD stated that Coastal Karnataka is likely to receive consistent rainfall from June 27 to July 3, while South Interior Karnataka may get heavy rain on June 27 and again from July 1 to 3.
Tamil Nadu may see heavy showers on June 27 and 28. Telangana is also expected to receive heavy rain on June 27. Yellow alert issued by IMD Hyderabad until June 30 for thunderstorms and lightning.Strong winds, ranging from 40 to 60 km/h, are likely to affect Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Telangana between June 27 and 30. Scattered to widespread rainfall, with possible thunderstorms and lightning, is expected across Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh during this period.
Northwest India: Thunderstorms, Lightning and Gusty Winds Likely
Heavy rainfall is expected in parts of the region from June 27 to July 3. Very heavy rain is likely in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh on June 29, in Haryana on June 29 and 30, in Uttarakhand from June 27 to July 1, in East Rajasthan on June 27, and in Uttar Pradesh from June 29 to July 2.
The region may also experience thunderstorms and strong winds with speeds of 30 to 40 km/h during this period. East Rajasthan has been issued a warning for very heavy rainfall during this period.
Central & East India: Continuous Rain with Strong Winds Expected
Heavy rainfall is expected across the region between June 27 and July 3. Very heavy rain is likely in Madhya Pradesh on June 27 and from July 1 to 3, in Vidarbha on June 27 and from June 30 to July 2, and in Chhattisgarh on July 1 and 2.
Odisha may see very heavy rain on June 30 and July 1, while Jharkhand is expected to receive heavy rain on June 29. Gangetic West Bengal is also likely to experience heavy downpours on June 29 and 30. Thunderstorms with strong winds, reaching up to 50 km/h, are possible in several areas during this period.
North East India: Very heavy rain expected in Arunachal Pradesh
Northeast India, including states like Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, is expected to receive light to moderate rain with occasional heavy showers over the next seven days. Very heavy rainfall is likely in Arunachal Pradesh on July 1 and in Nagaland on June 27 and July 2.
Precautionary Measures
The IMD has advised farmers, commuters, and people living in flood-prone areas to stay alert due to the ongoing heavy rain. Local authorities have been urged to prepare for possible flooding, landslides, and waterlogging. Fishermen have also been warned not to go out to sea as strong winds and rough sea conditions are expected during this period.
