A major fire at Birch by Romeo Lane in Arpora, Goa, caused multiple deaths, including tourists and staff. Authorities have launched a magisterial inquiry, arrested the general manager, and issued an arrest warrant for the owner while emergency services work to determine the causes and assess safety at nightlife venues.
Twenty-five people died after a major fire at nightclub Birch by Romeo Lane in Goa, officials said. The dead include four tourists and 14 staff members. The blaze struck on 8 December at the popular party spot in Arpora village, around 25 kilometres from Panaji.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant visited the damaged nightclub site early on 9 December. As per news reports, the nightclub’s general manager has been arrested. An arrest warrant has also been issued against the owner, and a magisterial inquiry has started.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the nightclub fire “deeply saddening” and said discussions have been held with Pramod Sawant about the situation. The incident has raised questions about fire safety and crowd management at nightlife venues in Goa’s busy tourist belt.
Officials said the fire began around 12 am at Birch by Romeo Lane when the club was operating. The venue in Arpora, a key party hub in North Goa, was reportedly crowded at the time. Emergency teams rushed injured people to nearby hospitals while fire personnel worked to douse the flames.
