Devotees usually conduct an Uttarang puja (farewell puja) before heading for immersion. This includes applying tilak to the idol, offering flowers, lighting incense, and singing devotional hymns and aartis. Items like coconut, Durva grass, and Shami leaves are used during this ritual. A traditional practice also involves scattering rice grains used in the worship throughout the home to invite prosperity. Walking barefoot during the immersion is considered an act of humility and devotion.

Story Behind Anant Chaturdashi

Anant Chaturdashi, the day of immersion, also holds significance in the worship of Lord Vishnu. Devotees observe a saltless fast and prepare sweet dishes like kheer and sevaiyan. A key ritual includes tying a red thread with 14 knots, known as the "Anant" thread, on the wrist. This thread symbolises the 14 worlds of Lord Vishnu and is believed to bring protection and infinite blessings to the wearer.

In 2025, the Ganesh festival also saw a strong surge in festive shopping. BigBasket, a leading e-commerce grocery platform, reported selling over 25,000 Ganesha idols and more than 1.3 lakh bananas during the festival week. This highlights the cultural and economic vibrance of the season.
