Ganesh Chaturthi 2025: Bengaluru Sees Soaring Prices of Mysore Silk Sarees, Flowers & Fruits on Gowri Habba
The Gowri-Ganesha festival is a very special celebration for the entire country. Cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru are filled with festive vibes. Markets in the cities are seeing a heavy footfall as the residents are busy with their last-minute festive shopping.
As today is Gowri Habba, one of the biggest festive demands in Bengaluru is for Mysore silk sarees, an age-old tradition for women in the city. Shopping complexes have been seeing a massive rush over the past few days. Apart from silk sarees, buyers are also keen on Ganesh puja essentials like flowers and fruits. However, currently the demand is on the rise with skyrocketing prices, which has left shoppers feeling a pinch in their pockets.

Mysore Silk Saree Mania Grips Bengaluru
Mysore silk saris have become the star of Ganesh Chaturthi shopping. People have witnessed long queues stretched outside the saree showroom in Bangalore.
Shops like Pothys in MG Road, Kalmandir near Marathahalli, and Vijalakshmi Silks are seeing a massive rush as women want to get their hands on the fresh pieces of sarees.
As per a Deccan Herald report, shoppers waited for over two hours to grab premium saris, some priced between Rs. 20,000 and over Rs. 2 lakh, at the KSIC Mysore Silk showroom in Jayanagar, where the exclusive designs sold out within hours."
Fruit and Flower Prices Touch Record Highs
In the run-up to Ganesh Chaturthi 2025, flower prices have surged sharply due to heavy demand and disrupted supply. As per a report from Vartha Bharti, on Sunday, jasmine touched Rs. 3,800 per kg, with smaller packets selling at Rs. 40 for just 10 grams, among the highest rates seen this season.
Fruit prices have also gone through the roof. Yelakki bananas, oranges, and apples' prices are soaring. Even coconuts and regular bananas, essential for puja rituals, are costlier.
This rise in prices is making buyers shoot towards the online shopping platforms like Zepto, Blinkit, and Instamart, where the prices are lower than in the local market.
For example, on Zepto currently, yellaki bananas are sold at Rs. 120/per kg, which is the local market price of around Rs. 160 per kg. Similarly, apples are being sold at Rs. 220 per kg on Zepto, which is slightly lower than the local market prices.
Despite soaring prices, Bengaluru's festive mood is running high. Markets are filled with shoppers buying Ganesh idols, silk saris, flowers, fruits, and decorative items. Retailers and traders expect the rush to intensify further in the next two days, pushing prices even higher.
Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 Date & Time
Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is the birthday of Lord Ganesha. The festival is celebrated across India, particularly in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. In Karnataka, Gowri Habba is observed a day before Ganesh Chaturthi. On this day, Goddess Gowri comes home the same way a married woman comes to her parents' house. The next day Lord Ganesha, her son, comes and takes her back to the abode of Mount Kailasha.
Ganesh Chaturthi this year falls on August 27, with Ganesh sthapana muhurat expected between 10:30 am and 12:30 pm, considered the most auspicious time for puja as per priests. The celebrations will continue for 10 days, ending with Ganesh Visarjan on September 6th.
