Electricity Bill Now Lower in Maharashtra: 26% Electricity Tariff Cut In Next 5 Years; Check What You'll Pay
Big relief for consumers as Maharashtra electricity tariffs will undergo a historic reduction of a total 26% cut over five years, according to a statement by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis which was approved by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC). It is the first-ever tariff reduction in the state's history.
MERC Approves MSEDCL's Proposal to Reduce Electricity Tariffs
The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) had submitted a proposal for a tariff reduction, an unprecedented step, as most past petitions to MERC sought tariff hikes of nearly 10%. However, this time, the focus was on reducing power bills for domestic, commercial, and industrial users.
The MERC's approval of this proposal means that electricity consumers in Maharashtra, especially those using under 100 units per month, will enjoy substantial savings. Nearly 70% of domestic electricity consumers fall into this category and will directly benefit from the initial 10% electricity tariff cut.

All Categories to Benefit: Domestic, Commercial & Industrial Electricity Users
According to the new power tariff order, the reduction will benefit all three categories of electricity consumers: domestic households, commercial setups, and industrial users. The biggest advantage will be for small domestic users. Nearly 70% of consumers in Maharashtra use less than 100 units per month and will receive the maximum benefit of a 10% tariff cut starting immediately.
This is expected to reduce electricity bills significantly, bringing relief to millions of middle-class families, small business owners, and industrial players across the state.
Sustainable Power for Farmers: Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0
To ensure daytime power supply for farmers in Maharashtra, the government is rapidly implementing the Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana 2.0. This solar-powered scheme is designed to provide reliable and affordable electricity to the agricultural sector, reducing reliance on expensive energy sources.
As the state increases its focus on renewable energy in power purchase agreements, long-term cost savings on electricity procurement are expected. These savings will play a crucial role in maintaining low electricity tariffs for all categories of consumers.
How to Check Your New Electricity Bill After Tariff Cut in Maharashtra
Wondering how much you'll pay after the electricity tariff reduction in Maharashtra? It's simple. If you're a domestic consumer using less than 100 units per month, your electricity bill will now be 10% cheaper starting this year. For example, if your monthly bill was Rs. 500, it will now reduce to around Rs. 450. You can calculate your updated bill by checking your last month's usage in units and applying the 10% cut. For higher consumption or commercial/industrial users, the exact reduction will vary based on your usage slab, but the savings will increase over time as the 26% total tariff cut is rolled out in phases. For accurate details, you can visit the official MSEDCL website or contact your local electricity distribution office.
