Eid-e-Milad 2025 Holiday Rescheduled to September 8 in Mumbai: Will Schools, Banks & Stock Markets Be Closed?
The Maharashtra state government has officially revised the public holiday schedule for Eid-e-Milad (Eid Milad-un-Nabi) in Mumbai city and its suburban areas, shifting the holiday from September 5 to September 8, 2025. The announcement was made via a notification issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), citing the need to accommodate religious events in the region.
Eid-e-Milad Holiday in Mumbai Rescheduled; Know Reasons Why?
This change, however, applies exclusively to Mumbai and its surrounding suburbs. In the rest of Maharashtra's districts, the public holiday will still be observed on Friday, September 5, as originally planned.

The adjustment has been made to accommodate the Eid-e-Milad procession organised by the Muslim community in Mumbai, which is scheduled for Monday, September 8, 2025. Authorities took into consideration the potential overlap of major religious events that weekend, especially the Ganesh Visarjan processions scheduled for Anant Chaturdashi on September 6, which draw massive crowds throughout Mumbai and Maharashtra.
By rescheduling the Eid-e-Milad holiday in Mumbai to September 8, the government aims to avoid logistical challenges, traffic congestion, and ensure communal harmony, given the back-to-back celebrations involving large public gatherings.
Will Schools, Banks & Stock Markets Be Closed on Eid-e-Milad 2025?
Schools across most parts of India will be closed on September 5, 2025 for Eid-e-Milad, except in Mumbai and its suburbs, where the holiday has been rescheduled to September 8, 2025.
Despite the holiday shift, government offices in Mumbai will remain fully operational on September 5, the day when the rest of the state observes Eid-e-Milad as a public holiday. The GAD circular has clearly stated that September 5 will be a regular working day for all government departments within Mumbai city and suburbs.
Additionally, stock markets in India, including the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), will function normally on September 4, the evening when Eid-e-Milad festivities begin. The exchanges have not listed it as a market holiday, ensuring uninterrupted trading activity.
