Indian e-commerce companies are gearing up for the festive season by significantly increasing their workforce. Leading platforms like Flipkart, Amazon, and Myntra have collectively created over 3.8 lakh seasonal job opportunities. These roles span supply chain, logistics, and customer service sectors. This hiring spree is in anticipation of a surge in demand during the upcoming festive period.

Flipkart has announced the creation of more than 2.2 lakh seasonal positions. The company is also establishing 650 new delivery hubs specifically for the festive season in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. This expansion is part of Flipkart's strategy to enhance employment, infrastructure, and technology across 28 states.
Amazon Expands Operations for Festive Demand
Amazon India has introduced over 1.5 lakh seasonal jobs within its fulfilment centres, sort centres, and last-mile delivery stations. These positions are spread across more than 400 cities, including major locations like Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Lucknow. To manage the festive rush, Amazon has opened 12 new fulfilment centres and expanded six existing ones.
The company has also launched six new sort centres in Hubli, Trivandrum, Rajpura, Gorakhpur, Moradabad, and Prayagraj. This expansion aims to cater to the increased demand expected during the festive season.
Myntra Prepares for Festive Sale Surge
Myntra has created over 11,000 new job opportunities through its partners to handle the anticipated rise in demand during its upcoming festive sale. These seasonal roles will support logistics, customer service, and last-mile operations. The company stated that these positions will involve sorting, grading, and packing tasks at fulfilment centres in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Delhi.
Nitin Dave, CEO of Quess Staffing Solutions, noted a significant increase in hiring requirements from customers between July and August. "We anticipate a 20-25 per cent increase in festive hiring across blue- and grey-collar segments compared to last year," he said.
Structural Shift Beyond Metros
The surge in hiring is driven by a shift beyond metropolitan areas. Tier-2 cities such as Jaipur, Coimbatore, Indore, and Nagpur are becoming vibrant employment hubs as businesses expand beyond traditional markets. Over the past five years, festive gig hiring in India has experienced rapid growth followed by gradual stabilisation.
TeamLease Service Senior Vice President Balasubramanian A highlighted that while growth rates have eased from post-pandemic highs, the absolute number of jobs continues to rise. "Gig work has become central to India's festive economy," he said.
Delivery personnel are in highest demand during this period, accounting for nearly 40 per cent of festive hires. Warehouse workers make up 20 per cent of hires, followed by customer support executives at 15 per cent. Retail floor staff account for 10 per cent and field technicians for 8 per cent of the hiring mix.
