About Vande Bharat Express
The indigenous semi-high speed train was launched by teh central government in 2019. The rail service is designed for medium to long distances. It offers reserved, air-conditioned seating and connects cities within 800 km or less than ten hours of travel. For longer routes, up to 1,200 km, a sleeper service is planned.
Manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, the trainsets are self-propelling Electric Multiple Units (EMUs) with configurations of eight, sixteen, or twenty coaches. The trainsets were introduced in 2018 and achieved semi-high speeds 183 km/h during trials. However, their maximum operational speed is capped at 160 km/h.
As of 2025 October nearly 150 Vande Bharat train services are operated across India connecting different cities and states. A standout feature of these trains is their rapid acceleration and deceleration capabilities.
