The Diwali festival kicked off with Dhanteras on October 18th, which is auspicious for buying gold. Diwali is a festival of light, prosperity and victory of good over evil, hence, devotees celebrate the 5-day-long festival by lightening their houses with diyas, lanterns and bursting firecrackers. However, this Diwali, there is a confusion regarding the Lakshmi Puja muhurat which will commence the year Vikram Samvat 2082, as per the Hindu calendar. As per many reports, the confusion is between October 20th or October 21st, which will be the auspicious day for Lakshmi Puja.

Diwali 2025 Date:

As per Drik Panchang, this Diwali, October 20th marks as Chaturdashi Day and hence Lakshmi Puja will be auspicious on this day. Apart from this, the day is also auspicious for Diwali Kedar Gauri Vrat, Chopda Puja, Sharda Puja, and Kali Puja.

Meanwhile, October 21st marks as Amavasya day, during which, devotees can practice Diwali snan and Diwali Devpuja.

However, there are three muhurats for Laksmi Pujafrom October 20th to October 21st. These three muhurats are --- Pradosh Kaal Muhurat (main Diwali), Nishita Kaal Muhurat abd Choghadiya Puja Muhurat.

Diwali Lakshmi Puja Vidhi:

There are several methods to perform Lakshmi Puja. Here is one of the simple steps to perform the Puja ritual, as per Vedantu:

1. Clean and decorate: Sweep the entrance, place a small rangoli, keep a diya plate ready.

2. Set the altar: Place images or idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha, a kalash with water, flowers, rice, turmeric, kumkum, sweets and fruits.

3. Light diyas and incense: Keep at least one diya lit near the altar throughout the puja.

4. Sankalp: Close your eyes and promise to work hard, be honest, and help others.

5. Offerings: Sprinkle water, apply kumkum and haldi, offer flowers, akshata, sweets and a coin.

6. Lakshmi mantra for Diwali: Chant slowly for a few minutes.

7. Aarti: Sing a short aarti for Lakshmi and Ganesha.

8. Prasad: Share sweets with everyone and wish happy Diwali and Lakshmi Puja to family and friends.
