Delhi's Union Budget Allocation for 2026-27 Remains Steady at Rs 1348 Crore
Delhi's budget allocation for the financial year 2026-27 is set at Rs 1348 crore, unchanged from the previous year. This funding supports various initiatives, including water supply improvements and compensation for riot victims.
The Union Budget for 2026-27 has allocated Rs 1,348 crore to Delhi, maintaining the same amount as the previous year. This budget marks the first for the new BJP administration in the city. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed approval, stating it aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat.
According to the Union Budget 2026-27, Delhi's total transfers from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs amount to Rs 1,348.01 crore. This includes Rs 968.01 crore under revenue and Rs 380 crore under capital heads. These allocations are consistent with the budget estimates for the 2025-26 financial year.
Central Assistance and Infrastructure Projects
Delhi received Rs 951 crore as Central assistance for Union Territories, aimed at funding various city government schemes. Additionally, Rs 380 crore was allocated for the Chandrawal Water Treatment Plant as an externally aided project. This funding is intended to enhance water supply infrastructure, ensure equitable distribution in the command area, and maintain a continuous 24x7 supply system.
A grant of Rs 2 crore was also provided to compensate victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Furthermore, Rs 15 crore was allocated to the Union Territory Disaster Response Fund. This fund is meant to offer relief during notified disasters such as earthquakes, droughts, and floods.
Revised Estimates and Future Plans
The budget estimates for 2025-26 had initially set Delhi's transfer at Rs 1,348.01 crore. However, revised estimates reduced this amount to Rs 1,242 crore. Chief Minister Gupta mentioned that a provision of Rs 1.4 lakh crore for rural and urban local body and disaster management grants will aid states in progressing further.
Gupta also highlighted plans to connect Delhi to a high-speed rail network. The proposed Delhi-Varanasi high-speed rail corridor is seen as a significant step towards achieving a Viksit Bharat.
These budget allocations reflect continuity in financial support for Delhi while focusing on infrastructure and disaster management improvements. The unchanged funding underscores ongoing efforts to enhance the city's development and resilience against natural calamities.
