Monsoon Advances Across India

The IMD announced that the southwest monsoon has now reached all parts of Rajasthan, west Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, covering Delhi completely by June 29. This swift progression is notable as it completed its advance earlier than usual.

On Sunday, intermittent rain caused waterlogging and traffic congestion in several areas of Delhi. The Safdarjung observatory recorded 4.8 mm of rainfall by 5:30 pm, while Palam noted 10.2 mm, Lodhi Road 5.3 mm, and Aya Nagar 9.9 mm.

Traffic Challenges Amidst Rain

Delhi Traffic Police reported congestion at major junctions such as India Gate, ITO, Peeragarhi Chowk, Shankar Road, and Sarai Rohilla due to rain-induced traffic snarls. Additional personnel were deployed to manage these situations effectively.

The NDMC received only two minor waterlogging complaints within its jurisdiction. However, the PWD reported between 10 to 12 instances of waterlogging, most of which were resolved promptly.

Weather Impact on Air Quality

Despite the rain-related challenges, Delhi's air quality remained within the 'satisfactory' range with an AQI of 83 over a 24-hour period according to the Central Pollution Control Board. This provided some relief from previous heat conditions.

The city's maximum temperature dropped to 32.8°C on Sunday, which is 4.4 degrees below the seasonal average. This brought welcome respite from earlier heatwaves experienced in the region.
