Constitution Day Of India: Meaning, History, Significance; Know All About Samvidhan Diwas On November 26

India will celebrate its Constitution Day on November 26. The country's leaders, like President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers, and Members of Parliament, celebrated Samvidhan Diwas at the main function in Delhi's Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan on Wednesday. They paid tribute and honored India's forefathers, like Babasaheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, for his contributions to constitutional ethos and values.

On November 26, 2025, President said that in 2015, the year of Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar's 125th birth anniversary, it was decided to celebrate November 26th annually as Constitution Day. That decision has proven to be really meaningful.

She added, "On this day, the entire nation reaffirms its respect for our Constitution, the foundation of Indian democracy, and its makers. 'We, the people of India,' express faith in our Constitution, both individually and collectively."

The President added that through numerous events, the citizens, especially the youth, are made aware of constitutional ideals. The initiative to start and continue the tradition of celebrating Constitution Day is praiseworthy beyond words.

Meanwhile, PM Modi wrote a letter to the citizens. PM highlighted how the Constitution has empowered individuals from humble backgrounds to serve the nation at the highest levels, sharing his own experiences of reverence towards Parliament and the Constitution.

PM Modi emphasized that the Constitution has given countless citizens the power to dream and the strength to realize those dreams.

Also, paying tribute to the members of the Constituent Assembly, PM remembered Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, and several distinguished women members whose vision enriched the Constitution. He reflected on milestones such as the Samvidhan Gaurav Yatra in Gujarat during the 60th anniversary of the Constitution, and the special session of Parliament and nationwide programmes held to commemorate its 75th anniversary, which witnessed record public participation.

What Is the Constitution of India?

The Constitution of India is referred to as the supreme legal document or National Law of the country. This legal documents are frameworks that demarcates fundamental political code, structure, procedures, powers, and duties of government institutions and sets out fundamental rights, directive principles, and the duties of citizens, as per Wikipedia.

Constitution Day of India History:

Constitution Day is also called as 'Samvidhan Divas', and is celebrated in India on every 26th November to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. The draft of Constitution Assembly was presented by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on 26th November 1949, while the constitution came into effect from 26th January 1950 which is celebrated as the Republic Day every year.

Constitution Day of India Significance:

Over the past 75 years, the Constitution of India has upheld the principles of justice, liberty, equality, fraternity, protecting citizens' rights and guiding India's democratic journey.

This year, to commemorate the 75th year of India as a republic and the adoption of India's constitution, the country's Justice Department has implemented a pan-India, year-long nationwide campaign titled 'Hamara Samvidhan Hamara Samman'.

Hamara Samvidhan - Hamara Swabhiman:

This campaign is integrated in the government's DISHA Scheme which combines constitutional literacy with actionable legal aid. Citizens could take the Panch Pran pledge, join legal literacy workshops, and access Tele-Law and Nyaya Bandhu services for real-time legal assistance, turning constitutional ideals into lived rights.

The objective of the campaigns are:

- Creating a visual marker for the Constitution of India in public consciousness.

- Increasing awareness regarding the Constitution of India.

- To bring into public domain the tremendous hard work that has gone into the making of the Constitution.

- To imbue the people of India with a sense of pride in the Constitution.
