Chennai Weather: IMD Issues ‘Very Heavy Rain’ Alert TN Districts, Is There a School Holiday Today, Dec 3?
Chennai Weather Today: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued 'very heavy rainfall' alert for multiple Tamil Nadu districts in the next two to three days as cyclone Ditwah remains shoreline. Chennai and nearby districts are set to receive heavy rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday, as per the IMD report.
Several Tamil Nadu districts including Theni, Dindigul, Tiruppur, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Salem and Namakkal districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall on Wednesday, December 3. IMD Weather Forecast for Tamil Nadu Districts
Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Theni, Dindigul, Tiruppur, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Salem and Namakkal districts on Wednesday.
Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Nilgiris, Erode and Coimbatore districts. Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Theni, Dindigul, Tiruppur, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Salem and Namakkal districts.
Whereas, light to moderate rainfall is expected in other Tamil Nadu districts and over Puducherry and Karaikal area.
The weather forecasting agency has predicted heavy rainfall alert for isolated places over Nilgiris, Erode and Coimbatore districts. People may also experience thunderstorms and lightning at one or two places over Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area.
There could be strong surface winds with speed reaching 35-45 kmph is likely to prevail over isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
Chennai Weather Today
As per the IMD weather bulletin, the Tamil Nadu capital can receive few spells of light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning.
Minimum temperature is likely to dip over 24 degree Celsius. Whereas, the maximum temperature is likely to jump over 29-30 degree celsius. Chennai residents are likely to face cloudy sky on Wednesday and face moderate rainfall.
As cyclone Ditwah remains near shoreline, Chennai saw heavy rain with thick cloud cover and the IMD placed the city under a red alert for Monday. The minimum temperature dropped to 22 degrees Celsius as steady showers continued, even though Cyclone Ditwah weakened and is now classified as a Deep Depression near the coast.
This active phase is interacting with the circulation around Cyclone Ditwah, bringing repeated rain bands over the north Tamil Nadu coast. Forecast models suggest rain intensity may vary across the city, but several zones are likely to record heavy bursts.

Chennai School Holiday: Is There A School Holiday Today?
In the wake of heavy rainfall alert, Chennai district collector Rashmi Siddharth Zagade has announced school holiday for December 3, reported Times of India. Additionally, all colleges will also remain shut on Wednesday. There will be a school holiday in Tiruvallur district. Additionally, the University of Madras has also postponed the exams for the day.
