BSNL Launches India’s First SIM-Less Quantum 5G FWA in Hyderabad With Speeds Up to 980 Mbps: Check Tariff Plan
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has introduced its innovative Quantum 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) service in Hyderabad. This new solution offers fibre-like speeds using 5G radio technology without the need for a SIM card. The launch event took place at BSNL's Ameerpet Exchange, with Shri A. Robert J. Ravi, Chairman & Managing Director of BSNL/MTNL, officiating the occasion.
"Quantum 5G FWA demonstrates how Indian engineers can create world-class connectivity. It is the first SIM-less, 100% home-grown customised 5G FWA for BSNL," stated BSNL Chairman during the launch. He also highlighted Hyderabad's tech-friendly environment as an ideal setting for this initial rollout, with plans to expand to more cities and introduce additional features in the future.

Unique Features of Quantum 5G FWA
The Quantum 5G FWA stands out due to its SIM-less architecture, which operates on BSNL's Direct-to-Device platform. This allows customer premises equipment (CPE) to authenticate automatically without a physical SIM card. BSNL is pioneering this production-grade SIM-less 5G service in India.
Designed under the Atmanirbhar Bharat program, the entire stack-core, RAN, and CPE-is developed by Indian vendors. The service offers impressive gigabit-class speeds, with Ameerpet recording download speeds of 980 Mbps and upload speeds of 140 Mbps with sub-10 ms latency. This makes it suitable for ultra-high-definition streaming, cloud gaming, and remote work.
BSNL Expansion Plans
The self-installation gateway covers 85% of households in Hyderabad using the existing BSNL tower grid, eliminating the need for trenching or fibre installation. Following this soft launch, pilot expansions are planned for Bengaluru, Pondicherry, Visakhapatnam, Pune, Gwalior, and Chandigarh by September 2025.
BSNL New Tariff Plans
BSNL has also announced introductory tariff plans such as Rs 999 for 100 Mbps and Rs 1499 for 300 Mbps. Additionally, the same 5G standalone core will support network-sliced links backed by service-level agreements for MSMEs and smart manufacturing clusters.
This controlled launch aims to refine customer experience before a nationwide commercial rollout based on field feedback. The event was attended by BSNL's Board of Directors, CGM Telangana, CGM BBNW, academia and industry partners, along with dignitaries from the Department of Telecommunications.
BSNL remains dedicated to expanding its technology and communication reach across India. The company is focused on ensuring connectivity extends to every part of the nation, including rural and remote areas.
