Union Government Approves Rs 20.55 Crore for Biotech Incubation Centre in Raipur, Chhattisgarh
The Union government has sanctioned Rs 20.55 crore for a biotech incubation centre at Indira Gandhi Agricultural University in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, according to an official. This centre is part of the Biotechnology Park project, managed by the Chhattisgarh Biotechnology Promotion Society under the Department of Agriculture and Biotechnology.

Focus on Innovation and Startups
The primary aim of this centre is to foster innovation and a startup culture while utilising bio resources. Young individuals will receive training, technical support, and infrastructure to establish biotechnology-based industries. The official mentioned that 23 modern laboratories with BS-4 level biosafety facilities will be included in the centre.
Facilities and Opportunities
Two central labs for instrumentation and analytical testing are also planned. The centre will support 17 micro and small industries, along with six large ones. Additionally, it will provide office space for 23 startup companies, allowing them to operate for three years. Special emphasis will be placed on startups in agriculture and pharma biotechnology.
Connecting Research and Industry
The incubation centre aims to bridge the gap between research and industry, creating employment and entrepreneurship opportunities. The official highlighted that this initiative will pave the way for collaboration between research entities and industrial sectors, enhancing growth prospects in biotechnology.
