Big Update for All Aadhaar Holders! QR Code Verification and Online Edits to Roll Out Soon; Check Full Details
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is soon expected to launch a new Aadhaar mobile app that will allow users to share their identity using a QR code, which will reduce the need to carry or submit photocopies of the Aadhaar card and will also enhance privacy and verification methods along with reducing document-related fraud.
For the uninitiated, Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identity number issued by UIDAI to Indian residents. It is available to every resident of India of all ages or genders, and it serves as a universal identity card.
Aadhaar Digital Identity Sharing via QR Code
As reported by TOI, in the upcoming Aadhaar app, users will be able to share a masked or complete version of their Aadhaar details through a secure QR code, which is expected to offer better control over their personal data. This is particularly useful in places like property registration offices, where document forgery is common. The QR code system will make sure that data is shared only with consent, significantly reducing the risk of misuse.
Aadhaar Updates From Home: What's Changing?
There are currently limited options for online Aadhaar updates. For instance:
Name, Gender, Date of Birth: Cannot be changed online and require a physical visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
Address updates can be done online using supporting documents.
However, as per the report, UIDAI is planning to enable complete demographic updates online by November 2025, meaning users will soon be able to update their address, change their mobile number, correct or modify their name, and update their date of birth. The only offline step remaining will be biometric verification providing fingerprints and iris scans at a centre.

UIDAI Integrations for Faster and Safer Verification
To speed up Aadhaar verification and prevent fraud, UIDAI is working to connect with various government databases, including birth certificates, driving licences, PAN cards, PDS (Public Distribution System), MNREGA, passports, and electricity bill databases.
UIDAI is also in talks with hotels, security firms, and private service providers to incorporate Aadhaar-based QR code verification into their processes.
Why the Aadhaar Update in 2025 Is a Big Deal for You?
The Aadhaar changes coming in 2025 are part of India's big push to go fully digital and reduce the hassle of paperwork. The goal is to make things faster and safer for every Indian citizen.
With the new system, one will see no more long queues, less paperwork, and more control over your personal data. Instead, you'll be able to share your identity using a simple QR code from a mobile app. UIDAI is making everyday tasks like bank verification, government services, or SIM card activation a lot smoother and safer for millions of people across the country.
