But did you know, you can generate your own electricity on a monthly basis by paying a certain subsidy? How? The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana by the government is meant to generate free electricity.

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana:

This scheme makes solar energy accessible and affordable at all households. BESCOM has released the subsidy to domestic category consumers on installing the solar rooftop panels under the scheme.

For residential customers, the subsidy is Rs 30,000 for electricity consumption of up to 100 unit which is the size of 1Kw solar plant. The cost of the solar plant ranges from Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000. On this plan, the yearly savings is around Rs 9,600 on electricity bill.

Further, for 101 to 200 units of electricity monthly which is solar plant size of 2kw --- the subsidiy is at Rs 60,000. The cost of solar plant is Rs 1,20,000 to Rs 1,60,000. The yearly saving on electricity bills is around Rs 21,600.

Lastly, for 201 to 300 units of electricity consumption in a month, the subsidy is around Rs 78,000. The solar plant size is 3KW and its costing is around Rs 1,80,000 to Rs 2,40,000. The yearly savings is around Rs 36,000.

The scheme provides for a subsidy of 60% of the solar unit cost for systems up to 2kW capacity and 40 percent of additional system cost for systems between 2 to 3kW capacity. The subsidy has been capped at 3kW capacity, as per the government guidelines.

At current benchmark prices, this will mean Rs 30,000 subsidy for 1kW system, Rs 60,000 for 2kW systems and Rs 78,000 for 3kW systems or higher.
