Bengaluru Metro Purple Line Disruption: Services Suspended After Suicide Attempt; Check Affected Route
Bengaluru Metro services on the Purple Line were severely disrupted on Friday, December 5, after a commuter attempted suicide at Kengeri metro station, which led to the suspension of trains between Mysuru Road and Challaghatta during the busy morning hours.
The incident caused a massive inconvenience across the city, with thousands of daily passengers.
According to Deccan Herald, "the incident occurred around 8:15 am, when a man, identified as Shantagoud Police Patil from Devara Hipparagi in Vijayapura district, jumped onto the tracks just minutes before an approaching train. The security staff immediately cut power to the third rail, but the man got trapped between the track and the train.
The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) released an official update on X, stating, "For information of Metro passengers, trains on the Purple Line are running up to Mysore Road metro station only. Services beyond Mysore Road to Challaghatta are suspended due to a suicide attempt at Kengeri. Will update once services are restored. Inconvenience regretted."
The announcement immediately triggered concerns among office-goers and students who rely heavily on the Purple Line, which connects key residential and commercial pockets of West Bengaluru.

Major Travel Chaos as Commuters Face Long Delays
The temporary shutdown led to a barrage of disruptions across Bengaluru, especially during peak hours. Social media was flooded with videos and posts showing long queues, overcrowded stations, and passengers stranded for nearly an hour as they waited for updates on Bengaluru metro operations.
With Bengaluru Metro's Purple Line services suspended between Challaghatta and Mysuru Road, many commuters were left with no choice but to switch to road transport, which led to a huge surge in BMTC buses and other private modes of transport. According to reports, traffic police around the Mysuru Road and surrounding areas saw heavy congestion as thousands shifted to road travel at the same time. Because of this, it led to gridlocks and major bottlenecks during the busy Friday morning commute.
