Bengaluru Drenched Again: IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert This Week, Waterlogged Roads Halt Bengaluru Traffic
Bengaluru has been observing heavy rainfall since the last few days after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a rain alert for multiple districts across Karnataka, including Bangalore city. The Karnataka weather update predicts heavy to very heavy rain along with high-speed winds of 30-50 kmph, which are expected to cause major disruptions, especially in Bengaluru traffic. Waterlogging in major roads, blocked underpasses, and slow vehicular movement are being widely reported across rain-affected areas in Bengaluru.
IMD Rain Forecast for Karnataka
As per the latest IMD Karnataka rain alert, Coastal Karnataka, including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada, is expected to see heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. Similar monsoon conditions are predicted in the Malnad and South Interior Karnataka regions, covering districts like Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Hassan, Mandya, Mysuru, Shivamogga, and Chamarajanagar.

In North Interior Karnataka, isolated heavy showers are likely in Bidar, Kalaburagi, Raichur, and Yadgir. Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall in Karnataka is expected in Bagalkot, Belgaum, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Koppal, and Vijayapura, as per the Karnataka monsoon forecast for July 2025.
Bengaluru Traffic Update
While Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts are expected to see light to moderate rainfall throughout the week, it has already caused major traffic snarls in Bengaluru. As per a TOI report, the Hennur-Bagalur Road, an alternate route to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), was completely flooded. Motorists and the Bengaluru traffic police struggled through waterlogged roads, raising concerns about rain preparedness in Bangalore.
Other areas such as Veeranapalya, Hebbal, and Bellandur also experienced slow-moving traffic, roadblocks, and delays due to water accumulation.
District-Wise Rainfall Forecast Summary

Public Advisory
Residents and commuters are advised to stay updated via official weather reports from the IMD and Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC). With more rain in Bengaluru today and expected throughout the week, especially in the evenings, people should avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours.
The IMD heavy rain warning also signals possible landslide risks in hilly regions of Karnataka, so it is advised to stay safe and follow advisories issued by authorities in those regions.
