Why Is Indigo Cancelling Flights?

As per an update by Indigo, it faced a multitude of unforeseen operational challenges, including minor technology glitches, schedule changes linked to the winter season, adverse weather conditions, increased congestion in the aviation system and the implementation of updated crew rostering rules (Flight Duty Time Limitations). Indigo said these "had a negative compounding impact on our operations in a way that was not feasible to be anticipated."

To contain the disruption and restore stability, Indigo has initiated calibrated adjustments to its schedules. On December 3rd, it said, "These measures will remain in place for the next 48 hours and will allow us to normalize our operations and progressively recover our punctuality across the network."

However, Indigo has already surpassed its 48 hours promise and flights still continue to be cancelled.

In the late hours of December 4, Indigo said, "The last two days have seen widespread disruption across IndiGo's network and operations. We extend a heartfelt apology to all our customers and industry stakeholders who have been impacted by these events. IndiGo teams are working diligently and making all efforts with the support of MOCA, DGCA, BCAS, AAI and airport operators to reduce the cascading impact of these delays and restore normalcy."
