The BCCL IPO listing date has been rescheduled due to the BMC election-related market adjustments. Earlier scheduled to debut on January 16, the listing has now been shifted to January 19, a Monday. Despite the change in schedule, investor enthusiasm around the lIPO listing remains intact.
If we look at past trends any listing delays rarely dampen the sentiment when an IPO is performing strongly in the grey market which is clearly visible in BCCL's case.
BCCL IPO GMP signals strong debut
The BCCL IPO GMP is exceptionally strong, indicating strong demand even after allotment. As per the latest grey market trends, the IPO is commanding a premium that suggests listing gains of around 60-65%, which mean possibilities are high of substantial returns for investors on debut.
BCCL IPO Performance and listing prediction
The IPO of Bharat Coking Coal Limited experienced extraordinary investor interest, being oversubscribed nearly 147 times, with bids worth approximately Rs. 1.17 lakh crore against an issue size of about Rs. 1,071 crore. Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs subscribed 311× , Non-Institutional Investors about 258×, and Retail about 49× their quotas.
"Given the massive demand, BCCL is expected to list at a healthy premium over its IPO price. The company's monopoly-like position in domestic coking coal, robust profitability, and PSU credibility support listing-day optimism. However, investors should remember that listing gains are often driven by short-term sentiment, and some volatility post-listing is likely," said Sachin Jasuja, Head of Equities and Founding Partner at Centricity WealthTech.
Hold or sell on listing day?
For investors primarily focused on listing gains, given the record subscription and GMP strength, many investors may be better off booking partial or full profits on listing day if the stock lists at a strong premium. Listing gains are common in heavily subscribed PSU IPOs. For long-term focused investors, retaining a portion post-listing could be attractive due to BCCL's dominant role in India's coking coal supply, a critical input for steelmaking and steady cash flows. A balanced approach: sell some shares on listing to recover capital and hold the rest for long-term compounding.," Jasuja added.
Near-term and mid-term outlook BCCL Stock
"Near term (0-6 months): The stock may witness volatility due to profit booking, PSU sentiment, and broader market conditions. Consolidation after the initial listing pop is likely." Sachin Jasuja Explained
"Mid term (1-3 years): Performance will depend on steel demand, coking coal pricing, operational efficiency, and policy direction. While steady growth is possible, sharp upside will hinge on sustained earnings momentum." he added
