Banks are closed for a long weekend from July 26 to July 28, due to the fourth Saturday and the special holiday of Drukpa Tshe-zi. However, it needs to be noted that bank holidays vary from city to city.

Bank Holidays Next Week:

Bank Holiday On July 26:

All banks will be closed on July 26th since it's a fourth Saturday. As per RBI's guidelines, since September 2015, all banks in India have been observing the second and fourth Saturdays as holidays. These banks include all scheduled and non-scheduled banks - public, private, foreign, cooperative, regional rural and local area banks.

That being said, since September 2015, banks have been observing full working days on Saturdays other than the second and fourth Saturdays.

However, bank unions and employees have appealed to the government to consider all Saturdays as holidays, giving banks an opportunity to enjoy a two-day weekend holiday. However, a decision on this matter is still pending.

Bank Holiday On July 27:

All banks will be closed on July 27, since it's Sunday, which is a default weekend holiday.

Bank Holiday On July 28:

On this day, banks will be closed in certain regions of India due to the occasion of Drukpa Tshe-zi. For instance, banks will be closed in Gangtok. Besides this, banks will be opened in other states of India.

This is also the last special holiday for banks in July.

Drukpa Tshe-zi 2025 Significance:

As per the Sikkim government's website, Drukpa Tshe-zi is one of the most auspicious and significant occasions for Buddhists all over the world. This auspicious day falls on the 4th day (Tshe-zi) of the 6th month (Drukpa) of the Tibetan lunar calendar. It marks the day on which Lord Buddha gave his first sermon on the Four Noble Truths to his first five disciples in the Deer Park at Sarnath, more than 2500 years ago, after attaining enlightenment.
