Happy Bhai Dooj
In many regions, today is a notified bank holiday on the occasion of Bhai Dooj. The festival is celebrated after Diwali celebrations to emphasise on the bond between brother and sister.
Bhai Dooj is a cherished festival celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout India. Similar to Raksha Bandhan, where sisters tie a thread on their brothers' wrists, Bhai Dooj involves sisters applying a Tika on their brothers' foreheads. This gesture symbolises the sisters' love and prayers for their brothers' well-being and longevity.
The essence of Bhai Dooj lies in the bond between siblings. Sisters pray for their brothers' prosperity and health, while brothers offer gifts as a token of appreciation. This tradition strengthens familial ties and fosters mutual respect among siblings.
On Bhai Dooj, sisters perform aarti for their brothers and apply the Tika, which is often made from vermillion or sandalwood paste. Brothers, in return, present gifts to their sisters as a gesture of gratitude. The exchange of sweets further enhances the festive spirit.
