Are Banks Closed Today? Alternative Saturday bank holidays often leave people confused about bank closures during weekends. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has stated that all private, public, scheduled and non-scheduled banks will remain closed second and fourth Saturdays. Hence, it is a bank holiday today, ie June 28, which is the fourth Saturday of June.

The RBI, in its Holiday Calendar, has notified the list of bank holidays for the whole financial year 2025-26 across the bank regions in India. The RBI has also notified that, "All scheduled and non-scheduled banks will observe public holiday on second and fourth Saturdays."

Banks remain closed on second and fourth Saturdays of every month, hence they will remain shut on June 28 as well. Banks will remain closed tomorrow, ie Sunday as well.

Apart from Saturday and Sunday, banks were closed on the occasion of Bakri ID (Id-Uz-Zuha) on June 7, Sant Guru Kabir Jayanti/Saga Dawa on June 11, Ratha Yatra/Kang (Rathajatra) on June 27, and Remna Ni on June 30 across different regions.

Bank Holidays in July

In July banks will remain closed on seven days other than Sundays and second and fourth Saturdays of the month. The RBI has notified these bank holidays under the 'Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act'. These holidays may vary from region to region, hence bank customers must check the RBI calendar or their nearest branch to confirm about the bank holidays on the mentioned days.

As per the RBI Holiday calendar, banks will remain shut on the occasion of Kharchi Puja on Juky 3, Guru Hargobind Ji's Birthday on July 5, Beh Deinkhlam on July 14, Harela on July 16, Death Anniversary of U Tirot Singh on July 17, Ker Puja on July 19, and Drukpa Tshe-zi on July 28. These bank holidays may vary from regions to regions.

RBI notifies bank holidays under Negotiable Instruments Act, where all scheduled and non-scheduled banks remain shut on second and fourth Saturdays. Several media reports suggest that the government is mulling to bring five days working schedule in the banking sector. However, there has been no clear announcement or information related to the same till now.

How To Complete Financial Tasks on Bank Holidays?

Currently, banks are closed only on the second and fourth Saturdays. While people visit banks to complete their various financial tasks and transactions, most of these can still be completed via net banking or online banking. From online transactions, opening a fixed deposit account, creating demand drafts, checking online balance, to evaluating passbook, multiple financial tasks can be completed via online banking or mobile application.

To enjoy the facility of online banking, customers must be aware about their login credentials like customer ID and net banking password. It is also important to not share these credentials with any other person.

With the help of online banking, people can also execute other taks like transferring funds via NEFT/RTGS transfer forms, submitting chequebook forms, changing account details, downloading bank statements, etc.
