Yes, all public and private sector banks will remain closed today, ie Saturday, September 13. As per the RBI website, banks will remain shut on every alternative Saturday, to be precise, on every second and fourth Saturday.

In Jammu and Srinagar region, today will mark the second consecutive bank holiday of the week, as these financial institutions were shut on Friday following Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi.

It is always better to plan for bank holidays in advance so that urgent financial tasks can be completed on time. For advance planning of financial tasks and bank visits, the RBI always releases the yearly calendar of bank holidays in advance.

As per the RBI holiday calendar, banks will remain closed on September 22, 23, 29 and 30 in selected regions. Additionally, banks are also shut on every Sunday and second and fourth Saturday of month.

Bank Holidays in September

Other than the bank holiday on Friday, there are few more bank holidays which will fall in September. To avoid any last minute blunder or any other mistake, people must stay up-to-date with the RBI's bank holiday calendar for 2025.

There will be a bank holiday on September 22 on the occasion of Navratra Sthapna in Jaipur region. Other than this, banks will remain closed in Jammu and Srinagar region on September 23 to mark the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji.

There will be a bank holiday in Agartala, Guwahati, and Kolkata region on the occasion of Maha Saptami/Durga Puja on September 29. Whereas on the occasion of Maha Ashtami/Durga Ashtami/Durga Puja, banks will remain shut in Agartala, Bhubaneshwar, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jaipur, Kolkata, Patna and Ranchi region on September 30.

Even though it is a bank holiday today, people can carry out most of their financial tasks with the help of the online banking facility. Customers must have to make sure that they have enabled their bank account to use online banking facility.

These facilities give bank customers the liberty to complete most of their urgent bank-related tasks even on holidays, whether it is a Saturday or a Sunday. Online banking facilities let users to avail the facilities of online transactions, online NEFT/RTGS, opening a bank account, creating a demand draft, fixed deposits, etc.

In October, banks will remain closed for nearly 15 days, other than Sundays and second and fourth Saturdays. These bank holidays are marked under the Negotiable Instruments Act and can vary from region to region in the country. Hence, it is better to check with RBI calendar prior to planning bank visit.
