A host of states have declared school holidays across their regions due to multiple reasons. For instance, states like Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Jammu, and Maharashtra (Nagpur) have declared school holidays concerning rain alerts. While states like Maharashtra, Kerala, Goa, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat have declared school holidays on Tuesday due to major regional festivals such as Onam, Ganesh Chaturthi, and Hartalika Teej.
IMD Weather Update For August 26:
Severe rain-like condition has emerged in major northern regions.
As per IMD's X post, severe weather with moderate spells of rainfall over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, west Uttarakhand, North Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, southwest Bihar, south Uttar Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tripura during next 3-4 hours.
Further, IMD highlighted that Rainfall (>15mm) occurred during 0830 Hrs IST of Yesterday to 0530 hrs IST of Today, the 26th August over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, North coastal Andhra Pradesh, coastal Maharashtra, Nagaland , Tripura and Andaman Islands.
School Holidays Due To Heavy Rains Prediction:
The Education Department of Rajasthan has declared school holidays in regions of Tonk, Alwar, Jaipur, Dausa, Nagaur, Didwana-Kuchaman, Sikar, Karauli, Kota, Khairthal-Tijara, Dungarpur, Chittorgarh, Ajmer, Kotputli-Behror, Sirohi, Bundi, Bhilwara, Udaipur, and Sawai Madhopur.
Furthermore, schools will be closed in Jammu division and Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Additionally, schools were ordered to be closed from August 25 to August 26 due to heavy rainfall warnings, which signalled a flood-like crisis.
Onam 2025: School Holiday
Schools in Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu are closed due to the auspicious annual harvest festival Onam which will begin from August 26. In Kerala, grand celebrations will take place from August 26 to August 28, and hence, schools are likely to be shut during the period.
Ganesh Chaturthi: School Holiday
Ganesha festival is grand celebration in Maharashtra, however, other states such as Goa, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat also celebrate the occasion. Schools will be closed accordingly. Notable, Ganesh Chaturthi will begin from August 27.
Hartalika Teej 2025: School Holidays
States like Chhattisgarh, Bihar, and Sikkim have declared August 26 as school holiday.
