Amazon Layoffs 2025: Up to 15% Job Cuts Expected in HR Division's PXT Amid AI Shift and Cost-Cutting Measures
Tech behemoth Amazon is reportedly preparing to execute one of its largest internal layoff rounds yet, with up to 15% of its Human Resources division. It is known internally as the People eXperience & Technology (PXT) team which is slated for job reductions, according to multiple sources cited by Fortune. While the PXT unit is expected to be the hardest hit, additional reductions across Amazon's broader consumer business are also anticipated.
Amazon Plans Major Layoffs in HR Division, PXT Team to See 15% Job Cuts
Amazon is reportedly planning to cut up to 15% of its People eXperience & Technology (PXT) division, the company's core HR and talent management unit. According to Fortune, this could be one of the most significant internal shakeups in recent years.

Led by Beth Galetti, the PXT team includes recruitment specialists, HR professionals, and tech roles that support employee systems. While this division is expected to be hit hardest, further layoffs across other consumer-facing segments are also likely. The move is part of a broader restructuring aimed at boosting operational efficiency and accelerating the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
Tech Layoffs 2025: Amazon Employees To Receive Pink Slip
This upcoming round of layoffs is expected to be more extensive than earlier workforce reductions seen in Amazon's consumer devices unit, Wondery podcast division, and Amazon Web Services (AWS). While those cuts were relatively limited, they signaled the beginning of a broader and more aggressive organisational overhaul.
Around 110 positions were cut in the Wondery podcast unit as part of its restructuring, coinciding with the departure of Wondery's CEO, Jen Sargent. Earlier this year, Amazon's AWS division also saw several hundred employees laid off.
Additionally, in May, the company eliminated 100 roles in its Devices & Services unit to control costs. Amid these reductions, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy highlighted in a company-wide message that the increasing adoption of AI and automation will further decrease the need for human staff in corporate roles.
The CEO said, "Those who embrace this change and help us improve our AI capabilities will have a big impact. But we expect this will reduce our total corporate workforce as we gain efficiency from using AI," as per news reports.
