Navi Mumbai Coastal Road Project Achieves 60% Completion Linking Atal Setu to New Airport

The Navi Mumbai Coastal Road, linking Atal Setu to the new airport, has achieved 60% completion. This project aims to improve regional connectivity and economic development.

The Ulwe Coastal Road project, connecting Atal Setu and the newly opened Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), has reached 60% completion. The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) announced this progress on Friday, highlighting the project's significance in regional infrastructure development.

Navi Mumbai Coastal Road Reaches 60% Completion

The 7 km corridor, featuring a six-lane road with 5.80 km of coastal road and 0.90 km of Airport Link Road (ALR), aims to integrate NMIA with key economic zones like Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and Navi Mumbai Special Economic Zone (NMSEZ). CIDCO, responsible for Navi Mumbai's planning, is overseeing the project.

Infrastructure Enhancements and Economic Impact

Vijay Singhal, CIDCO's vice-chairman and managing director, stated that the Ulwe Coastal Road will enhance Navi Mumbai's transport network. "Once completed, the Ulwe Coastal Road will stand as a landmark infrastructure project enhancing the transport network of Navi Mumbai and accelerating the pace of national economic growth," he said.

The project is expected to ease congestion on major roads such as Palm Beach Road, Amra Marg, and National Highway-348. It will significantly reduce travel time between South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, benefiting commuters, businesses, and logistics operators.

Advanced Engineering Techniques

To ensure durability, advanced engineering methods like prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs), stone columns, and rock fill material from the NMIA site are being used. The corridor will feature flyovers, major bridges, and a railway overbridge to maintain smooth traffic flow.

Safety and sustainability are priorities for CIDCO in this project. Energy-efficient LED lighting, smart traffic management systems, anti-crash barriers*, and modern signage will be installed along the entire stretch to enhance safety.

Future Prospects

The Ulwe Coastal Road is poised to become a transformative infrastructure initiative in the region. By decongesting existing arterial roads, it will contribute significantly to regional economic development. Operations at NMIA are expected to commence in December.

This project marks a significant stride towards improving connectivity in Navi Mumbai. As it nears completion, it promises to bolster economic growth by facilitating smoother transportation links between key areas.
