Markets end higher; CG, IT lead rally

Markets ended the day higher with buying interest in Consumer Goods and IT stocks leading to a smart jump in indices. Firm trends from Asia also helped support the market.

The Sensex closed the day higher by 56 points, while the Nifty gained 12 points.

Grasim, NTPC, SBI, HCL Tech and L&T were among the top Nifty gainers. Today's rally was also led by Reality stocks in morning session.

Among the sectoral indices, Oil & Gas, Consumer Durables and Auto were only sectors in red.

Top index losers were Tata Motors, UltrTech cement, Siemens and ICICI Bank.

Shares of the Hindustan Copper surged after the government said it will sell 4% of the paid up equity share capital of the company. Blue Dart Express hit a upper circuit ahead of offer for sale tomorrow.
