Markets end higher in special trading session

Markets ended the day higher in special trading that was conducted on Saturday by the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange. The opening on Saturday was on account of the BSE testing its disaster recovery software, allowing live trading during 11.15 am and 12.45 pm. The NSE also decided to stay open during those hours.

The Sensex ended the day higher by 65 points, while the Nifty drifted higher by 16.60 points.

Volumes were low in the absence of institutional support and markets were rangebound for most of the 90 minutes.

Metals stocks saw smart gains in trade today with Hindalco, Jindal Steel and Sterlite Industries jumping smartly. Other shares that gained among index stocks included Tata Motors, Infosys and Hindustan Unilever.

Stocks that had subdued closing included Power Grid Corporation, Bharti Airtel and BPCL.
