Rupee gains on positive equities

The partially convertible India rupee appreciated by 31 paise against dollar on the Interbank Foreign Exchange.

According to forex dealers, dollar selling by exporters also supported the rupee. Weakness in dollar and positive equity market helped rupee to advance in the trade.

Increase in inflows and export proceeds boosted the rupee on the currency market today.

The currency was seen trading at 55.13 to the dollar higher by Rs 0.31 at 10.20 pm IST. The rupee opened at 55.2 against 55.42 Wednesday's close.

Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark Sensex was up by 80 points at 17681 points and NSE was up by 22 points at 5,360.
