Markets end higher; TCS surges 12%

Shares rallied today, on firm European cues and a smart rally in the TCS stock. The BSE Sensex ended the day at 17207 points, up 110 points over Monday's close. The Nifty too gained ground with the NSE Nifty closing the day higher by 22 points.

Among the star performer in trade today was TCS, which closed the day with gains of almost 12%. The company reported a splendid set of numbers for Q4 and is expecting better than industry growth rates in the coming year.

Telecom stocks like Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular lost heavy ground today, following the recommendation of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.

Among the other gainers today were Wipro, SAIL and HCL. Stocks that lost ground today were Ambuja Cements, Larsen and Toubro, ACC and Kotak Mahindra Bank.

Markets are expected to remain range bound in the absence of domestic triggers. They are likely to now take cues from global trends.
