Prices of consumer electronics to go up

Refrigerators, airconditioners, microwave owens and other consumer durables and electronic products are slated to become costlier as excise duty increase sets in.

The excise duty hike of 2% in the Union Budget 2012-13 means that these products are likely to become significantly costlier.

Already interest rates are high for consumer durables and now the excise has acted as a double whammy. Shares of consumer durables like Videocon lost ground today.
