Rupee gains 9 paise against US dollar

The partially convertible India rupee recovered on Tuesday by 9 paise against the dollar on fresh capital inflows and positive equity market sentiments.

The Rupee had fallen sharply on Monday to close at Rs 49.22 per dollar, weighed by oil payments, dollar demand and weak trend seen in the domestic equity markets.

On Tuesday, there was a clear trend reversal. The Indian rupee opened at 49.11 per dollar versus 49.22. Meanwhile, the benchmark Sensex rose 296 points, with the 50-share NSE Nifty rising 95 points.
