What is the Gold Card?
Donald Trump few months ago announced that the US government will soon bring 'Golden Card' visa programme, which may replace the existing EB-5 investor visa program. He claimed the upcoming initiative to be a major boost for investment in the United States and an opportunity for High Net Worth Individuals across the world to settle in the US.
"We are going to be selling a Gold Card. We are going to be putting a price on that card of about $5 million. It's going to give you Green Card privileges, plus it's going to be a route to (American) citizenship, and wealthy people would be coming into our country by buying this card," Mr Trump said at the time," Reuters quoted Donald Trump as saying in February.
The US 'Gold Card' visa program is aimed to attract affluent individuals to invest in the US economy. To apply for the card, it will be important forthe applicants to invest around $5 million. Successful applicants will get 'US Gold Card' and permanent residency rights similar to those granted by a green card, which is a streamlined route to US citizenship.
The recent initiative has come amid constant backlash from the Donald Trump administration to the existing EB-5 investor visa program, which requires a lower investment amount and mandates job creation for applicants. Some of US Gold Cards have been sold in the Middle East, reported The Hindu.
